Does anyone think that government subsidized fitness centers would be a good way to reduce health care costs?

I think that if we give people access to club memberships that they currently can’t afford, then perhaps the obesity rate would go down, and so would help reverse health problems that relate to the obesity epidemic in America. What do you all think??

Funny. My wife worked out, ate right, doesn’t smoke OR drink and still got breast cancer. So, I’m gonna say no.

Insurance providers, whether government run or no, should perhaps provide incentives for gym membership.

Insurance companies do not necessarily make less money when more people are sick though. They lose money when they do not expect a person to fall ill, but if the person, or society, is expected to fall ill, then that is simply a different, and perhaps even more lucrative bet.

The insurance companies’ motivations aren’t to keep people healthy, rather simply to make the most money. So, private insurance would likely fail to make this improvement.

The government subsidizing anything is a bad thing.

Also, what is the point of a fitness center. You are paying someone to lift heavy things and to walk on a treadmill. Why not just lift heavy things and go for a walk for free?

People don’t exercise when they have to pay for it out of their own pockets. You think they’re going to exercise if someone else pays? No, they are not.

    Big government is anti-American.

No the government has no money it is the tax payers money and if they can pay for that they are taxing us to much. People need to take some responsibility for themselves.

Insurance companies should provide that, since it would save them money, not the government.

No!!! Instead of spending the money on food, people should spend it on health clubs. They don’t have to join a 75.00 per month club like some of us do, but they should be able to spend $20.00 per month on fitness. A family plan is only about $38.00 for 3 people (at cardinal fitness) which is extremely affordable. This comes out to less than $13.00 per person. The only reason I choose not to go there is b/c they do not offer the yoga and pilates classes that I like taking, but they have everything else that you need. They could also raise taxes on fast food the way they do on cigarettes. This is the only way to make people think twice about buying these things.

They can subsidize, but it still does not have anything to do with membership, or self responibility and motivation
