If you have a look at the Masterbuilt electric turkey fryer then you can see it is reasonably priced, and it has a thermostat to stop the unit from overheating and setting on fire, something which the propane models lack. So I think that an electric fryer is the best model you can get, it is slightly slower, but I think the safety it gives you more than makes up for that, especially if you have kids in the house. If you really want to you could use an electric one outside too, that stops the smell and allows it to be cooking near you if you are out enjoying the weather at the time.
