Indoor Tennis and Outdoor Tennis Difference?

Posted on March 11th, 2010 by admin in racquet club | 2 Comments »

Hey guys. I have been playing indoor hard court tennis my whole life, and I have never gone outdoors to play. I play pretty well indoors (barely miss, I serve 80+ mp/h sometimes (I’m 13), my shots are accurate), but today I had my tennis tryouts outside.

I walked on the court, expecting it to be a lot similar to indoor courts, but I was appalled at how different it was. When I play indoors, I always tend to "feel" the court, but when I played outside today, I did not feel the court at all. It’s hard to describe how I felt.

So then I started serving. The wind blew my toss to the right and I shanked it. Second serve. I tossed it a little to the left (because the wind was blowing it to the right), but when I tossed the ball up, there was no wind so I shanked it again (this time it hit of the left frame).

And the wind is not even the main problem. My feet weren’t moving, the balls bounced weirdly, and I didn’t feel like I was playing tennis. Everything felt wrong, and my confidence kept dropping and dropping, until at the end I almost gave up in frustration. Every other day, after school, I play at an indoor racquet club. When I went to the indoor club to play after school, I played fine!

I just don’t get it. I want to tell the coach how I feel, but at the same time I don’t want to because he will think I’m making excuses. I’m a good player, but I lost both of my matches today against people who I would probably have demolished 6-2, 6-3.

Does anyone have any suggestions on different tactics and strategies to use when I’m playing outdoors? I think I’m having more of a mental issue, rather than a physical one. Or maybe I’m having both…

I really want to make the team, and I know that if the tryouts were indoors, I definitely would.

Please, post any suggestions you all have!

Thanks in advance!

Your just not used to playing in outdoor tennis courts. What I suggest you do is start practicing on outdoor courts instead. Tennis overall is mainly played outdoors. Outdoor courts are definitely not similar to indoor courts. The difference is the conditions your in. Indoor courts have perfect conditions, there’s no wind, no nothing. Outdoor courts on the other hand, you have to deal with the weather, it may be sunny and perfect, but at times can get pretty windy, cloudy, cold, hot etc.

With tennis, you can’t always expect to have the best weather conditions. If you want to play tournaments or even be a professional tennis player, then you’re going to have to try playing under different conditions, The more you play, the more you’ll get used to it.

So don’t feel bad about your first few matches on the outside courts. You can’t expect to play your best under different conditions for the first time. Like I said, play in outdoor courts more often and eventually you’ll get used to it.

May or June wedding in Orange County??

Posted on February 20th, 2010 by admin in racquet club | 6 Comments »

I am getting married next year at the Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club in Orange County. Originally I wanted the wedding in May 16, 2009, but that date is already taken. My alternative date is either 5/30/09 or 6/20/09 (both Sat).
Do you think it’s too hot to get married in June? I am having both an outdoor ceremony and reception.

Also, if anyone had a wedding (or been to a wedding) at the Coto de Caza golf club – what are your thoughts on the location? I haven’t confirmed with the place yet, but I need to do it soon. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

AWESOME! I was just there! Okay… definitely May… way to hot for June, especially if you are having both outside! Congrats! Anyways you can get married one month earlier… so why not?
