What are the odds of getting an academic vs. athletic scholarship?

Posted on April 15th, 2010 by admin in athletic | 3 Comments »

Having a discussion with a neighbor. He thinks that athletic scholarships are easier than academic ones. I have done some searching on the web and found out, roughly, some odds of the sports but not the academic ones. I myself, believe that the academic are a little easier than the athletic ones. (this doesn’t include the easier $500-1000 ones offered thru various workplaces). Does anyone know the odds of either? Or of a website that would give that information? All help and information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Getting an academic scholarship to a less prestigious school is very easy because if you have a certain GPA (3.7 or above) and a certain SAT score (1400 on math + reading scale) then you can get an academic full ride.

Sports scholarships are tough to come by, especially for sports like football and basketball. They are very competitive.
