How do you determine if a quarterback is athletic?

I’ve been struck over the years by sports commentators using the word athletic when talking about quarterbacks. Some quarterbacks, famous for running around and dodging tacklers, get deemed athletic. However, the term usually never gets applied to most of the great quarterbacks of the game, say like Peyton Manning or Kurt Warner. Shouldn’t a quarterback be considered athletic, if he can help win games and set records without having the attributes of a running back?

I understand what you saying but all that is really happening is that the announcer is choosing an adjective to describe the QB. They choose the best word that will fit. Athletic could be used on some of the greats but it isn’t doing them justice

would you rather be considered athletic or great?

If the quarterback is a pocket passer like Manning or Warner they generally aren’t considered athletic, whereas if they like to run around to make plays they are considered athletic like Vick.

Runs fast, jumps high, and is black. It’s quite a racist adjective when used that way.
